Events and new attractions should raise tourist arrivals and revenue to this eastern seaboard resort town by at least another 10%, the Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya office outlines in its marketing plan.

The resort is supposed to adopt the theme “Variety Pattaya” positioning the resort as a place for special events and festivals, while new attractions including three water parks under construction should help to boost domestic and regional travel in 2013.

One of the promotional ideas suggests Bangkok residents could be persuaded to make Pattaya their long-weekend destination when there are festivals taking place. They would leave early Friday and return to work late on Monday.

Three water parks are due to open next year: Cartoon Network in Bang Saray (20 km south of Pattaya), Ramayana Water Park near Na Jomtien Beach and the Grand Water Park, ( location not identified).

TAT will promote these water parks including the already existing Pattaya Water Park. It will also promote three  parks in Chonburi province namely Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Sriracha Tiger Zoo and Nong Nooch Garden & Resort to mainly the domestic segment.

TAT Pattaya office director, Attapon Wannakit, is pushing online marketing through a website www.trip2pattaya.com and via a facebook page of TAT Pattaya that focuses 100% on domestic tourism. Both websites are in Thai language.

Mr Attapon said that TAT estimated that this year the city will welcome 7.8 million visitors, up around 8% to 10% from last year figure and should generate tourism revenue around Bt70 billion.

For next year he targetst around 8 million visitors with spending of around Bt80 billion, or an  increase of around 10% on this year’s revenue. However, he said target might need adjusting to follow the government’s target of Bt2 trillion in 2015.
