As part of an ongoing commitment social responsibility, the multi-award-winning Absolute World Group – Asia’s leading lifestyle property developer, resort and hotel operator, fractional ownership and vacation club pioneer – announce their support of the new Art and Culture Center at Ban Phia in Khon Kaen. A grassroots project initiated and run by the local community, ‘Wat Mongkol Luang Art and Culture Center’ is a project based on the principles of sufficiency and sustainable development as outlined by His Majesty the King of Thailand.

Tambon Mueang Phi, or well known ‘ancient city of Ban Mueng Phia’, is one of the oldest communities located in Bann Pai district, Khon Kaen province. Based on archeological and historical findings in the area, Mueang Phi, is thought to date back over 2,500 years and had a strategic role in history leading to the development of the modern day province of Khon Kaen.

Wat Mongkol Luang Art and Culture Center’ is a community project under the auspices of the Mongkolsarnvisudth Foundation. The local community of Mueang Phi plan to build the Art and Culture Center to house the significant archeological finds in the area and to act as a place where culture can be preserved. The Art and Culture Center would help raise local people’s awareness of the history of the region and would become an eco-tourism destination based on sustainable development principles benefiting the local community.

Headquartered in Thailand, with developments in key resort centres around the Kingdom (Phuket, Pattaya and Samui), the Absolute World Group welcomes a large number of global tourists to Thailand each year. Absolute World Group Chairman, Bryan Lunt, upon hearing of the project was moved by the drive of the local community and their desire to establish a sustainable eco-tourism project.

“Absolute World Group are proud supporter of this valuable project. What the local community are developing here is something communities all over the world should learn from. We are committed to assisting the local community to realize their vision.”

Wat Mongkol Luang Art and Culture Center’ is under construction and expected to be completed in 2012 – www.banmueangphia.org.
